The Large Blue Butterfly (Maculinea arion) is the rarest and largest of the UK's blue butterflies. It is unmistakeable due to its row of black spots on the upper wing. It was classified as extinct in 1979 but has been reintroduced since then. Using individuals from populations in continental Europe the Large Blue is once again present in the UK. However, this species is still classified as Globally Endangered and numbers are continuing to decline across the world. This print forms part of the 'Eight Rarest Insects of Britain' Collection.
